Fact Personnel was founded in 1989 by Nainesh Sanghavi, with a conviction that has not changed since: that India's most demanding companies deserved a search partner who would take their appointments as seriously as they did themselves. The firm has been retained for the leadership decisions that shape what businesses become — and has stayed deliberately small in service of that work.
Three decades on, the work is the same. The retainers come from family-led businesses professionalising their leadership, listed companies hiring for the next phase, and multinationals scaling their India operations. The mandates have changed as India has changed; the discipline has not. We are still selective about what we take on, and still write the reports we would want to read.
The firm is family-owned and led by the next generation. The continuity matters: relationships that span careers, a culture of confidentiality that does not need to be re-learnt with each engagement, and a memory of the Indian leadership market that is harder to build than to inherit.
The work itself runs on the discipline of any senior advisory practice. A team of consultants, each accountable for the mandates they carry. A research function that holds the network and keeps it current. A pace deliberately calibrated to the depth the work requires. We are family-owned in the things that matter — continuity, values, judgement — and professionally run in everything else.
We take one mandate at a time per consultant. The cost of overcommitting is felt by the client, by the candidates we approach, and by the integrity of what we recommend. We would rather say no than say yes badly.
Our network in the industries we cover is built over decades, not months. We have deliberately chosen to go deep in a small number of sectors rather than be passably useful across many. Where we say we are not the right firm, we mean it.
The fact that a client is searching, the names being considered, and the conversations underway are kept inside the engagement. Our reputation is built as much on the things we do not say as on the things we do.
The strongest candidates are rarely the ones already in the market. Finding them, mapping them, and earning the credibility to make the call at the right moment is what retained search uniquely does — and what we have built our work around for over three decades.
Every mandate ends in a written assessment that says what we are sure about, what we are not, and what to test for next. Confident reports are easier to write but less useful. We try to be honest, in writing.
